The Chinese New Year begins on 07 February and
heralds the Year of the Rat.
A Rat Year is a time for hard work, activity and renewal. Plentiful opportunities present themselves but are best acted upon after careful planning and preparation. This is a good year to get married, start a new job, launch a new idea or make a fresh start.
To make the most of the Rat Year, be patient, let things develop slowly and make the most of every opportunity that presents itself.
Chinese legend suggests that Buddha asked all the animals to meet him on Chinese New Year. Twelve animals came and Buddha named a year after each animal. This is why the calendar follows a twelve year cycle. People born in each animal year are believed to share some of their animal characteristics. So if you were born in 1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984 or 1996 you were born under the sign of the Rat.
Rats are said to be imaginative, charismatic, passionate, practical and hardworking. They make good leaders and pioneers. Rats are respected for their courage and enterprise and are sociable, bright, active and easily attract others to them. They are hardworkers with an eye for a bargain and although prone to nervousness and anxiety, can endure a great deal and summon great amounts of energy.
Famous rats include: Charlotte Bronte, Gwyneth Paltrow, Lauren Bacall, Marlon Brando, Prince Charles, Eminem, Ursulu Andress and Englebert Humperdinck.
