New Embryo Test Offers Hope to Thousands
27 July, 2009
Researchers have recently presented their findings on a new type of embryo test called Karyomapping. This process can identify any known genetic disorder such as Huntingdon’s and could replace techniques such as PGD. It may also be able to check for abnormal numbers of the 23 pairs of chromosomes (aneuploidy) which can lead to conditions such as Downs Syndrome or trigger miscarriage.
The tecnique compares the DNA of affected and unaffeced family members and the embryo is then screened for affected DNA.
The test may cost between £1500-£2000 and could be available within the next year.
