Fetal Doppler allows you to listen to baby’s heartbeat from 10-12 weeks

27 March, 2009

An acupuncture patient has recommended this product which allows you to listen to your baby’s heartbeat from after 10 weeks.

fetal-dopplerIt’s a mini version of the doppler scanner that is used in hospitals and comes with gel and headphones. My patient was 11 weeks and had easily found the fetal heartbeat and talked about her excitement at allowing her parents to hear the heartbeat of their first grandchild!

After previous IVF attempts and many years of trying to conceive it can seem difficult to believe that you are finally going to have the baby of your dreams. Listening to the heartbeat of your baby can be very reassuring, particularly if you have suffered miscarriages in the past. You can even record the sound of the heartbeat and play it on your computer. My patient also thought she would at a later date record her own heartbeat and play it to her newborn baby as this sound is thought to calm and reassure newborns who are used to hearing their mother’s heartbeat when in the uterus.

You can order a fetal doppler from Amazon for around £28.
